1987 Headlight door mechanism

Yesterday, my lights for my 87 T/A would only go up about half way then looked like they were struggling. It was very easy for me to grab and pivot the doors with barely any resistance. Today, they go up and down all the way, but the motors still spin for several seconds once in position. I am trying to disassemble the gearbox but am having difficulty getting the gear totally out of the housing to inspect it, but looking from the side, the teeth don't look worn at all. I did notice that the metal shaft is not real tight in the plastic gear though. I can rotate it independent of the gear.

Is this the problem that the 3 delrin bushing rebuild kits fix?

What's the trick to get the gear totally out to inspect things better & to rebuild?

Thanks for the advice.
