A.I.R. Elimination questions..
I'm planning on eliminating the air system on my 89 iroc when I put the new engine in. What all is involved? Will I need a delete pulley if I want to retain my A/C or will a shorter belt due or can I reroute or something? I will be using the stock manifolds for now, what size plugs do I need after I remove the tubes? Is there anything else I am forgetting? Will it set a check engine light? Thanks!

Re: A.I.R. Elimination questions..
hey there,
On my 87, I have 2 belts, one serpentine belt for the crank/water pump/alt and a v-belt for my AC. I used to have a 3rd v-belt for my smog pump before I took it off.
I was told the only right way to remove the a.i.r system is to delete it from the prom, well, I decided to take a chance and remove it anyway.
I unbolted and removed my smog pump and bracket, removed all hoses that went with it, and hid the 2 connectors that plug into the a.i.r box in some conduit.
To this day I have yet to have any problems with it, and it looks so much better lol.

First of all, your AIR pump is an emissions device, and its a violation of federal law to remove any emissions device on a street vehicle.
Second, this is a pretty common question, so you can
and find the other threads started by other people who wanted to violate the law.

The OP should just take a moment to understand that the AIR pump is no more of a load on the engine than is a delete pully. Seriously it spins with no resistance. People are so concerned about lost power from their AIR and EGR systems, yet they do nothing to harm performance. How come nobody runs an electric water pump instead? Thread Starter

not trying to gain anything from eliminating it, just dont want to replace the seized pump when I put the new engine in. Also don't like the air tubes making it hard to work on the pass side of the engine. It's also really unappealing to the eye.
