85 v6 FB stalling
Somebody please help! My old Firebird keeps stalling when I stop for more than about 2 minutes. Also it's very hesitant when applying the gas. This has been going on for over 2 years and NO ONE seems to be able to find the problem. I have replaced my distributor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, various tubes and hoses, cat conv., my MAF seems to check out okay, etc etc etc. When she stalls, she cranks right back up again. The check engine light has not come on. The engine has around 20k miles on it, and the rebuilt transmission has less than that. Although I've had her for 16+ years, I'm close to giving up.
Anyone have any ideas? (If you reply, please know that I am a girl with limited mechanical skills...tell it to me in the Firebird's For Dummies language!!!)

Re: 85 v6 FB stalling
I'd check the IAC valve..I had this problem as well and I replaced my Idle Air Control Valve and adjusted my TPS sensor but then again I do have a v8...im almost certain that your FB also has a IAC valve
google it and youll see that there are ways to clean them out, but it is better if you just replace them...mine was about $60 at a local Autozone
here's the link I used when I changed mine
http://www.iroczone.com/techartcleaniac.html
Im not entirely sure what youre problem is...but what is happening is that when you are not accelerating the IAC valve controls how much air is going through to the engine and when there is too much air compared to fuel ratio it obviously will shut off because it is getting more air than fuel...when the IAC valve is faulty or dirty it is possible that it stays open when you come to a stop therefore it sends too much air inside the engine...it is also common that when you first "tap" on the accelerator the car kinda stalls and wants to shut itself off..these were the exact same issues my car was having and once I changed this it ran fine...PM me if you'd like I'd be more than happy to further explain this..I'll look for the websites I used when doing this..theres lots of reading involved but all is possible..dont worry about "not" having mechanical skills...Im pretty young and it was the first time I'd ever done that and it was fairly simple
don't give up on it Id been there before but I cant let it go, and luckily I got it to run just fine now..

It's at the mechanic's right now, and I will give him this info and maybe...???? Thanks so much for the advice-- also I'm going to see if he has checked the fuel pressure!
