Popping in Exhaust

Alright, so when I did my plugs back in Dec, I noticed my firing order was wrong. Cylinder 5 and 7 was mixed up. I corrected it and a popping in the exhaust started. So today I got to work with some spark plug wires I had. I changed them all and the popping was still there. I sprayed water on the coil and around the cap and nothing. So I pulled the #7 cylinder wire and closed the gap on a junk plug and started the car up. No popping. I'm thinking I may have a stuck exhaust valve or an exhaust valve that wont seat correctly.

Need help on this!

Re: Popping in Exhaust

Perhaps you can confirm your suspicion of a valve that is not seated properly by doing a compression check and a leak down check.

Thanks for your response! I will be hunting down a Compression tester to check it out.

Re: Popping in Exhaust

My perception is if it started after you fixed the firning order...you might want to rethink the "fix"

Re: Popping in Exhaust

Are you sure it wasn't 4 and 7 mixed up? don't some cams swap the 4 7 firing order? Just asking since your sig says cammed and it started after you swapped the wires.

Re: Popping in Exhaust

I'm really lost when it comes to the car having a cam or not. The PO said that the guy before him said it had one but the guy I bought it from wasnt sure. I thought I heard the idle but Im thinking its a miss. Im gonna do a compression test this week and see whats up.
