smoke in engine bay

I have a 1986 camaro iroc-z28. I start the car and after 3-5 minutes of idleing it develops a small smoke on the right side of the engine. I thought it may be a valve cover gasket leak but I am wondering if it could be anything else that may cause harm to my car if I was to drive it. Anyone have any potential ideas on what it could be? Thanks A lot

Erik

Re: smoke in engine bay

anyone? I am also having a problem with my turn signals, they don't work at all. When I first bought the Camaro a few months ago they worked and now don't work? Any ideas? Flashers work, I searched but didn't see any results for 100% btw my car is a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z28.

Re: smoke in engine bay

i bet the turn signal problem is just a flasher which is only about a buck and takes a second to replace, or the turn signal switch(unlikely). as far as the smoke, all i can say is look around, you will find it if you look hard enough.

Re: smoke in engine bay

Really sounds like valve cover gaskets, my vette is doing the same thing right now.

Let the engine cool off real good then start it, get on the ground, and check for oil dripping from somewhere. If it is coming off the exhaust manifolds, chances are it is valve cover gaskets.

Thanks much to both of you! As far as the flasher how would one access the area that contains it? I looked around for a pull down panel near the steering wheel but nothing would move?

Re: smoke in engine bay

It could also be your rear main leaking, dripping on your exhaust and the smoke rolls up through the engine compartment. I have that problem.
