car hesitates right off the line
car hesitates right off the line
hey guys. I recently had the top end of my engine redone. before I did I had problems with the car toping off in power at 70mph. It was like it had more but couldn't use it.
I replaced my 305 heads with 350 heads ported to .172 intake and 72cc chambers. I replaced my edelbrock performance intake with an edelbrock rpm airgap and my 600cfm edelbrock carb with and 750 edelbrock carb.
the car doesn't top off in power anymore but has a hesitastion just right off the line then gets up and goes. I checked my electric fuel pump and it was only reading 4psi which a mechanic told me was too low. he looked at it and said it was made for a fuel injected car. not a carbuetor. Someone else also told me my carb was too big for the car. (its a 350 engine btw.) but the hesitation only happens when you gun it. it rides out fine any other time.
so guys can you help me out? would it be the carburetor, fuel pump, or something else?

Re: car hesitates right off the line
heres your problem you really did not make any diff going from rpm performer to air gap ,basically same intake one just is supposed to have a cooler air charge hence air gap what you need to check is idle speed adjustment in other words look at the butterflies the primaries and see if there is any visible gap in them they should look almost closed the reason the car stumbles is because the initial air charge is too much try to idle the car down until it wants to die then make fuel adjustments with the edelbrock i have the same carb and had the same problem now provided your timing is correctly set not to retarded make sure that is right first to conincide with your compression and cam try idling the car with the two adjustment screws i screw them all in until that bank starts to lean a little then i back back 1 to 1.5 turns oh and dont talk to that mechanic again if this car was originally fuel injected then the psi should be 30 to 40 psi but for a carb 4 to 5 psi is normal unless you are using nitrous remember check timing first then set idle speed youd be surprised ------------------------------big zeke 355 92 bird
Re: car hesitates right off the line
look at it like this if i have too much air and not enough fuel ive got to play catch up or if i have too much fuel and not enough air ive still got to play catchup so yes basically if your primaries arent set right then you are running a little lean too much air set those first and then see where we are let me know-----------------------------------bigzeke355bird
