so after much diagnosis
i think we have finally found the problem with my car not starting.
it would turn over, but never catch and start running.....so after 2 days of looking things over...
we found out....
im getting fuel
getting spark on the 2nd cylinder on the pass side
but not spark everywhere, which led us to the distro
we first find that the rotor is worn down, and its been burned out in the middle
$9 and 5 min later, thats installed. still no go...
so we take the coil and the control module to o'reilly's and have them tested
have continuity in the coil, and the CM was fine....
left us with the magnetic pickup...
guess what....no continuity...
tomorrow that will be replaced...
sorry for the long explaination, just thought it might help someone else out..
keep you updated

Re: so after much diagnosis
If it's got some mileage on it don't assume that will be an easy replacement. It SHOULD be as easy as driving out the roll pin, removing the gear and pulling the distributor shaft out of it. BUT oil sludge accumulates on the shaft and often makes it very difficult to pull the shaft out through the top bearing- to the point you can end up driving the bearing completely out of the top of the distributor!
Usually when the pickup goes south on an old distributor I just replace the distributor.

yeah, thought about doing that, then opened my wallet. hahah. the distro is already out, had NO problems getting it there. the stock had been replaced by an accel, somewhere in the last couple years. the distro came apart easily. thanks for the input!!
