Brand new fuel pump = no gas

Short story, im driving through Tennessee (nice place) and my car starts to spit and sputter like its out of gas. Pull it off the freeway, tank up just in case the guage was wrong and sure enough only 2.5 gallons go in...strange. BUT, car starts and off I go. 2 hours later in a traffic jam, SAME THING! Now im pissed. Park the car let it cool off. And it gets up and goes, but now its night time and no problems.

Next day Im driving for an hour and it happens again, its like the darn thing is out of gas! BUT IT ISNT. So I pop off my trusty fuel pump trap door to see if I see anything and I put my hand on the lines and it is too hot to touch! This raised the HOLY **** flag in my brain. However duty demanded I drive 10 more hours to North Carolina...so I plopped a fat bag of ice on it used as much fuel as possible so I could fill up more often and filled every 70 miles...no problems.

Now a little info is I just changed the fuel pump before this happened. BBK seems to think I have a restriction somewhere causing the pump to work overtime which is heating the fuel causing vapor lock in the lines. Maybe some junk found its way into one of the lines??? Clogged the injectors maybe. I dont know.

Right now I just want some of your input. If anyone has had this same problem please let me know. THANKS!

Injectors aren't a "restriction" in the fuel flow. The fuel pressure regulator controls pump output pressure by letting excess back to the tank.

Check fuel press first. If it is fine, you've probably got a defective fuel pump.

Re: HOT FUEL LINES!!! HELP!!!

If your return line is restricted two things happen. 1) the fuel pump is pumping against a dead head and can overheat 2) the fuel is not cycling thru the pump as designed. The fresh fuel cycling thru is intended to also cool the pump.

Pretty easy to check, just blow out the return.
