1982 Trans Am Filler Neck
1982 Trans Am Filler Neck
Hey,
I've looked all over for a solution but can't quite seem to find what I'm looking for.
What the deal is, a friend of mine got a 1982 Trans Am for his uncle, with the crossfire injection. He asked for my help in getting it going, it needed a new fuel pump and I was told a new gas tank. Well, got it all apart, and the gas tank was in perfect shape, except for the filler neck had been cut and spliced back together with a piece of rubber fuel hose. What the deal is, the vent tube in the filler neck was cut and isn't spliced back together inside the filler neck, making the car nearly impossible to fill with gas. We went to a junkyard to try and get a different tank, but all the ones we found had the filler necks cut as well. I can't see the sense in spending the money on a new tank and wondered if anyone here had some idea's for a solution?

I haven't run into that situation, so I'm not sure exactly how to handle it. One thing that comes to mind is to stick a tube from the vent up the filler before you put the two pieces back together.
I have an intact tank in good shape available, but it was from a carb'd car. The crossfire pick-up will fit it, but I don't know if there are differences in the internal baffling. And, it's a big box for shipping, especially with the filler neck sticking out there.
