Fuel pump shot

how comon is it for these fuel pumps to take a ****?? the car has 115,000 on it. Its a 91 GTA with the 305 tpi. I went to start the car this morning fired right up let it run for like 20 min nd it just shut off on its own. I tried to fire it back up cranked a couple times then fired up and started running like crap. I tried to fire it yet again nd when i hit the key the fuel pump didnt cycle, there was no noise what so ever. Car was just about empty on gas, i put about 5 gallons in it and tried again. Again nothing nd it doesnt seem to cycle when i hit the key. Could it have burned up from trying to start it with very little gas in it? cause when i started it the first time i herd it cycle same with the second third time no dice. What do you guys think ?? anything with the ignition system that goes bad commonly that could cause it to loose spark??
any help would be great. Thanks guys

Andrew
