low budget rodding

hey i got a question.. im thinking of stroke'n my 305 to a 335..... I KNOW I KNOW why rite???? lol i wanna keep the 305 block to fool everyone.. but im having second thoughts about the heads... i dnt want to dump money into the ride for just heads plus im still planing on rebuilding the 700r4..

the question is: will heads off a 350 flow more??? or will it not work at all..

Will 350 heads work wit jus the stock 305 set up?? or am i way off and none of this will match up???

ive heard the 305 head dont flow lots.. and i got a set of heads off a 1970 trucks-350 .... as well as the cam.... im not sure if the cam would give me more power either..

i dnt wanna spend for new parts at all.. LOL but i do got my own deals where i get parts for free at the gov crusher.. sad firebirds & camaros getting crushd.. sorry i couldnt save em

The 305 block is exactly the same on the outside as the 350. You'd be fooling them just as much with a 350. The best part is that it costs less and still makes more power than stroking a 305.

Depends which heads they are. The majority of stock 350 heads out there will flow worse, and have less compression.

Only if you want to give up all your compression.

As long as they're not TBI heads, the stock 305 heads are pretty good for stock.

You need the casting number from the heads to know if they're any good. A used flat-tappet cam is garbage, especially if it's stock.

im pretty sure its a bad idea....

thank you .. im going to get the complete set up 350 for my red camaro.. but i also got my hands on a 454.. 73 truck... HMMMM LOL but thanks

but my opinion.. my 305 z28 jus aint putting out power like my red iroc used to and the iroc was a TBI base.. the Z28 is the TPI.. got input on that??? could it be transmissions????

187s are stock swirl-port TBI heads.

Re: low budget rodding

any suggestions on cheap upgrades on this 305??? i found the stroker kit for 650.. its pretty cheap and i am planning on rebuilding the 305...

and i dont wanna put the 350 in the z28 since im going to put it in the iroc..

im running a carb on the 305 and it jus dont have any power for me like the TBI 305 did.. and the numbers show the TPI 305 is supposed to have more power...... was it the tpi to carb that killed the power or is it something else???

im jus trying to figure out why the big difference.. the z28 got 3.23 and the iroc has 3.09 gears.. the z28 gots a auto and the iroc has the t5

somebody help...

The stroker kit for the 305 is $650...
The stroker kit for the 350 is $469, and a 350 block to put it in is $50. It also makes more power.
Which one is cheaper now?

Either way, you're going to need to pay for a lot more than just the kit to build a working engine.

It could be a whole lot of things that have been done wrong.
