Cylinder head accessory bolt holes

I have a set of ported 2.02"/1.60" '462' heads without the accessory bolt holes. Can the accessory bolt holes be drilled and tapped and Is it safe to do so?

I'm unsure of what heads were used, but, yes, it's been done. The search features will no doubt find you the specific info you require.

Only if you're just missing one hole. If the heads did not have any of the holes, the material isn't there to drill & tap them, and you won't have a flat surface to mount the accessories even if you did drill and tap them.

Re: Cylinder head accessory bolt holes

Sell the heads and buy something more modern. The newer heads can easily outperform those old heads and will be much better castings. Even a set of Vortec heads are better.

Re: Cylinder head accessory bolt holes

If you are dead set on using those heads they made brackets that allow you to bolt your accessories up.

Re: Cylinder head accessory bolt holes

If you are set on using those heads, there are brackets made that can make the '69+ accessory setup work on heads without the bolt holes, though I can't remember who makes them. I have seen them though. 'Alan Grove' I think might be the name...?

GM made the brackets also IIRC.
