Some quick questions
1. Is there a line running from battery to ecm for memory retention? I keep setting my idle to 750, but if i shut the car off for more than a few minutes then start it again, its back down to 500.
2. What is the expected resistance on your average Autozone spark plug wires?
3. Could a bad ignition control module cause the car to immediately shutoff at a stop as if someone pulled out the key?
4. Could the same ignition control module cause the car to be hard to start? Cranks really strong, but takes a bit to fire, maybe 3 10 second attempts, sometimes more, especially if ive been driving a while.
5. Is there a way for me to test with a volt/ohm meter the ignition control module?
6. Should I be super concerned that I have to refill the coolant every 2 days? Not a ton, just top it off. Maybe 3 inches worth.
7. Should I ditch the 305 for a 383?

Re: Some quick questions
My answers below:
1. Is there a line running from battery to ecm for memory retention? I keep setting my idle to 750, but if i shut the car off for more than a few minutes then start it again, its back down to 500.
Yes, how are you setting the idle? The ECM sets the idle.
2. What is the expected resistance on your average Autozone spark plug wires?
Beats me :-)
3. Could a bad ignition control module cause the car to immediately shutoff at a stop as if someone pulled out the key?
Sure, but so could other things.
4. Could the same ignition control module cause the car to be hard to start? Cranks really strong, but takes a bit to fire, maybe 3 10 second attempts, sometimes more, especially if ive been driving a while.
Sure, but check your fuel pump relay. If it's not working the oil pressure has to build before the pump will come on. Do you hear it run for a couple seconds when you turn the key on?
5. Is there a way for me to test with a volt/ohm meter the ignition control module?
Not really. They're cheap. Replace it and the pickup coil. Both are common failures.
6. Should I be super concerned that I have to refill the coolant every 2 days? Not a ton, just top it off. Maybe 3 inches worth.
Yea you should be. Any water/foam in the oil?
7. Should I ditch the 305 for a 383?
Of course! :-)

Re: Some quick questions
Im following the procedure for the idle thats in the haynes manual, which is the same on TGO. Ive changed the fuel pump relay, and yes it turns on with the key. No foam in the oil that I can see. Thanks for the answers!

Re: Some quick questions
if your changing the timing are you disconnecting that tan EST wire up by the strut tower?
i battled that trick for days lol i thoght the car was haunted
as far as the coolant is concerned look for leaks, it IS possible that theres just alot of air in the lines but if your not overheating thats sort of debunked. id say if your really concerned about it to a compression test and check for 2 adjacent dead cylinders it highly doubtful your head gasket is shot though if the car isnt showing any weird runnability problems

Re: Some quick questions
Replaced the ignition control module and it starts up like a champ. The idle is still a bit low, but I didnt have any stall issues except when I go into reverse. I have another motor lined up for it, so im not too concerned with the coolant. The car doesnt leak a drop of anything, and it never overheats.
