buzzing coil

just put in an accel brute thunder ignition coil. now the problem that i seem to be having is i get this buzzing sound immediately when i turn on the car. at first i though something was connected wrong so i disconnected all the connectors that go to the distributor. then attached them again but it still kept on going. and i had to flush the radiator so i just let it be for the time being. could it be the coil not being properly ground? and could this have caused the overheating i got when idling?

Large cap, coil in cap type distributor?

Check the ground. You need that strap that goes under the coil to the center terminal in the connector.

Re: buzzing coil

My friend had a remote mount Accel coil years ago that buzzed. They said some did that and it was normal. The car ran real good so I'd say the noise was probably nothing.

As mentioned, check the ground and other wires just to be sure.

yes i have an hei in cap coil. which strap? the coil came with the little ground wire which is screwed basically back into the coil(as it was on the stock coil) and then the yellow and red tabs that are used for the connectors that go to the battery and tach. and theres another connector that connects and goes to ground. all the connectors are in.

is the coil ground wire supposed to be grounded to itself? the way my old one was, it had the wire attached to the screw that was put in the bolt hole.

other than that the car seems to run fine except for overheating

The ground is the center of the three terminal connector. It grounds to the distributor body.

I have my "spare" HEI's in storage or I'd take a pic of what I'm talking about.
