Injector flow rate?
Hey guys,
Im putting a mpguino(http://ecomodder.com/forum/opengauge...-computer.html) in my trans-am.
Its a little device to monitor fuel usage.
I need to figure out the MicroSec/Gallon rate of the injectors - could anyone provide any information on the stock injectors on a 88 trans-am with a TPI 305 engine?

Re: Injector flow rate?
Stock injectors are around 19lbs/hr. That means with 8 injectors, they are capable of supplying up to 152 pounds of fuel per hour. You need roughly 2 pounds of fuel per hour per HP. An engine doesn't make maximum HP all the time so this is only the maximum requirement.
Putting in too big of an injector is like using too big a carb. It will work but not very well.
Roughly calculated using 8 injectors;
19 lb injectors can produce 300 hp
24 lb injectors can produce 385 hp
30 lb injectors can produce 480 hp
36 lb injectors can produce 575 hp
42 lb injectors can produce 670 hp
50 lb injectors can produce 800 hp
If your engine isn't built to produce 400+ HP then using 30+ lb injectors is a waste of money. You only need injectors big enough to supply enough fuel that the engine needs. A 305 can easily survive on 19 lb injectors. Using a power adder, 24 pound injectors could be used.
