fuel injector cleaner waste of money??

Ive always used injector cleaner along with number 1 fuel and throttle body cleaner. Is injector cleaner a waste of money. My car runs smoth and gets good fuel economy.

Any one against any of the above. (its a L98)

Re: fuel injector cleaner waste of money??

Well unlike most fuel/oil/other additives ive heard fuel injector cleaner is actually a good idea. I think i remeber reading back a aways in one of the older car magaziens that they agreed it was a good idea. Is it neccessary, probably not is the money you spend on fuel cleaners less than the cost of the repairs and losses in fuel economy they are preventing, who knows its all speculation but does it help? Its my oppinion that it does help keep the fuel system clean and with small ports like fuel injectors lets just say its something i would do.

Re: fuel injector cleaner waste of money??

I use it at random...Maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Just like I drop in a bottle of Restore at engine change time.

21 yr old car...185,000 miles...And still knocks down 16mpg in town, 20 mph Highway (with a tad in-town driving mixed in)

Is Restore & Fuel Injector helping? I dunno...But it sure isn't hurting.

And actually, I CAN SAY, Restore helped...I used to blow that white puff of smoke at start up EVERY time. Now it is pretty rare that I get a puff and even, its not NEAR as bad as it was before.

I started this "regime" 3 years ago, when I bought the GTA at 173,000 miles.

With all the additives in today's fuel using fuel injector cleaner is probably not necessary. I only use it about once a year. I only use Techron.

I use Lucas to but one of the best ways to clean the system and remove built up carbon is to pour a quart of ATF in the tank at fill up. I've done it and I know of mechanics that have done this. The cars just run better afterward. I know,it sounds crazy.

Re: fuel injector cleaner waste of money??

About the puff of smoke at start up (valve seals?) my car does the same. Restore is a fuel additive or oil? My car does not use much of any oil between changes @190,000kms but it does puff at start up. But every time i pull it out of storage it will not smoke at all from the tail pipes?

Re: fuel injector cleaner waste of money??

The puff is valve seals, most likely.

I just know that mine reduced its puff, a few months after the first time I used Restore.
