Should I go carb??
I'm working on putting together a parts list for an L05 in my new Blazer mudder/hauler. I was originally planning on keeping the rpms to 4500 and keeping the swirl port heads and putting a turbo on later, but I decided I'm going to use some vortec heads and a decent cam.
I found some rebuilt vortecs on ebay assembled for 340 bucks. Checked for cracks they say. I could barely rebuild a set myself that cheap. I think that's a steal, but I'm awaiting a response on the lift limit. I plan on using a .420-.440 lift flat hyd cam, so I'm sure it won't be a problem.
I was planning on keeping with the TBI, but now I'm debating a carb. I only drive it once a week, so gas mileage isn't a huge concern. I know nothing about tuning EFI, and I'm not sure I want to get into it yet. I wouldn't have to change the fuel pump either with a carb, just a reg.
What do you guys think? I was thinking a 600 edelbrock.
The chambers are 67cc, I'm not sure what the swirl ports are. Would this be feasible with the right head gasket? Without changing pistons. I don't fully trust those compression calculators. Some assurance would be nice. It may go 383 sometime.......

if you get vortec heads you will need a vortec style intake and centerbolt valve covers. I would go carburetor, TBI would need PROM tuning. A 600 edelbrock would work fine.

Carb! Way easier to tune, and setup is simpler while making good power...

Yea, its kind of a no-brainer, I just really wanted to stay efi for once ya know? A carb would probably make a wider tq range also. I just needed to hear someone else say it.
Hey what RHS heads do you have J91? I have the 200cc versions on my camaro, and I'm happy as hell with em.
Any ideas on the CR? If my stock pistons are flat tops, I'm thinking its going to be around 9.8:1 with an 051 gasket.

I've got the 226"s w/2.05 valves, I love 'em! I'd go with a Holley 600 or 650 HP or something similiar would do you well I'm sure. CR looks about right, 9.8:1 should be healthy...You got a Vortech, I am jealous!!!!!
