Hey,

Just bought a 91 5.7L camaro z28, automatic. The motor has been rebuilt with a higher than stock lift on the cam and the motor has been bored .030 over and besides that everything is stock, except exhaust, k&n's, airfoil. Since i've had it I had some high idle and inconsistant idle.(Idles around 1100 then jumps to 1400-1600 making the car jump at stops and sometimes jumps way down and cuts off) I took it to my mechanic and he went over it bottom to top with his decision being that the problem was in the chip and recommended I got a custom one for that cam specs. Other than the idle it runs great.

Would the wrong or stock chip make the car idle high and inconsistant?

If I do get a chip should I go with a custom chip for the specs of the cam or just a aftermarket stage 2 chip from hypertech? If I get a custom chip, I do plan on adding bigger injectors, 52mm TB, and swapping intake/runners eventually. Would I have to get another custom chip made for those mods as well?

Thank you for any information,
Andrew

Depending on the specs of the cam, the less forgiving speed density system / computer (chip) may not cooperate and cause run issues.

Contact the folks at http://www.pcmforless.com (they also build chips) and check into a custom chip that will match your cam profile.
