Re: need some advice

Those heads aren't the ones you want to put any money into. Start by getting the LB9 heads that don't have the highly-restrictive swirl-port intake ports. Your swirl port heads don't respond to porting, and there's no point trying a cam with them. You can shave the heads about 0.030" without having to do anything to the intake manifold. When you get your heads off, confirm that your pistons are at least 0.020" down, "in-the-hole" at top dead center, then order a pair of FelPro steelshim head gaskets. This will get you 9.4:1. Add a GM LT1 cam, and reassemble with Edelbrock's TBI intake. You're ready for a dual-snorkle air cleaner, Holley 570-cfm TB, headers, cat-back, 3.73:1 posi, and lastly, a 2000-stall torque converter. Then you're ready for a 350.

Re: need some advice

Almost every '87 305, including Caprice should have them, maybe even '87 fullsize halfton pickup 305s. Also used on TPI cars with 5-speed. Your local machine shop may have a pair. Also check the "for sale" section of this website. If you only change one thing, due to budget, best to make it the heads.
