Re: Push rod torque
you spin the pushrod between thumb and finger with one hand while the other turns the ratchet. When it becomes difficult to spin, then turn the rocker nut another 360 degrees.

Re: Push rod torque
Well not to correct atillia as he is right but just to make something alittle more clear when you turn the pushrod in your fingers you want to twist it till you feel the slightest drag (this is the point where all lash has been removed). If your tighten it till its reasonably difficult to turn chances are you bottomed out the lifter and are starting to open the valve which will lead to missfireing, maby a back fire, noisy valve train ect. Another method is to lift the pushrod up and down as your tighten the rocker arm untill there is no play. I prefer the twisting method better though as sometimes you can pull the pushrod out of the lifter without knowing it with the second method. Once all lash has been removed give it another 3/4-1 turn to set the correct amount of preload and your done. Keep in mind also you have to adjust them when that lifter is on the base of the cam (not partially open) otherwise again youll have a tick and may not run well. If you search the web or look in a repair manual it will explain what order to adjust the valves and at what degree of engin rotation they should be adjusted.

Re: Push rod torque
Aluminum heads, or no poly locks, or what? Should be good for 6 months to a year between checking the lash.

Re: Push rod torque
Well they were just the old cast iron heads with no poly locks it was actually a old 350 LT-1 form a 70 corvette. lol the motors probably worth more than car lol. I usually adjusted the valves with every oil change. Probably didnt need to adjust them that often but it did keep the valve train with a nice quiet clatter to it.
