Re: Casting Numbers
You had a 305 with junk 58cc swirl port heads.
You now have a 350, with junk 76cc 993 smog heads.
What do you want to know?

Re: Casting Numbers
just curious to what i had...
why were the 993 smogger heads junk? (curious) i've got screw in studs in those heads. (my dad had them done previously or maybe he bought them that way.)
Is there a site i can find out what intake that is ? cause mine was aluminum not cast... but it has gm stamped on it i thought the stock intake was cast on a 92 305 rs.
edit *yeah its the 993 i double check it*

Re: Casting Numbers
993 heads had massive 76 cc chambers, poor flow in the ports, poor swirl in the chamber, etc. Just low performing heads.
Screw in studs on 993 heads is what I'd refer to as "polishing a turd".
No, the stock intake on a '92 RS would be a cast aluminum intake. Not a cast iron. cast iron intakes went the way of the dinosaur in the early '80s.
Your intake (on the 305) would have been a TBI intake right? I'm not sure what info you'd be looking for on that? I imagine you're replacing it right? What induction system are you using on the 350?

Re: Casting Numbers
i am using a a carb set-up and yes it was tbi... i was just trying to figure out if the motor had been torn down and rebuilt with new parts or anything...
thanks for the info... I guess i will just throw these heads on and start saving for a good set.
And yes i am replacing the intake with an aluminum Holley Dual Plane, or a Edelbrock Torker II Single Plane

Re: Casting Numbers
Ah. Sorry, I don't know the TBI intake manifold by part number. If it's got the two holes in the top, then it's probably stock. If it was aftermarket you'd know it...
I wouldn't use a Torker II as a boat anchor... Use the holley dual plane, or a performer RPM.
