Newbie with questions
Hello all,
Well I just purchase my first third gen vehicle. 86 IROC with 305TPI.
Besides the laundry list of things that I know it will need, I came to discover that the harmonic balancer is off by about 45 degrees which made timing it a challenge. My question is, not having replaced a balancer before, how difficult will this be? I am by no means a master mechanic and could use as much advice as possible.

You'll need a balancer removal tool. Some auto parts stores will rent / supply you with one but, they're not that expensive to purchase outright. After the balancer is removed, inspect the balancer key on the crankshaft. If it's worn or damaged you may need to remove and replace that too.
BTW, why is it off 45 deg? Does it have a timing tape on it? Most dampers are etched. Unless, it's aftermarket?
