300 rwhp build?
So i've decided to go ahead with my engine rebuild and im trying to get about 350 hp on the motor. I am going to be doing all the rebuilding myself, it would be my first time so i would like some ideas on how to get 350 hp on the motor which would be about 300 at the wheels. right
. So what would you guys do to get to these numbers on a 1,500 dollar budget?By the way its a 88' 350 TPI.Thanks.

its an automatic 350 tpi on a convertible, i dont wanna go the nitrous way i want to have the power available all the time without damaging my engine too much. like maybe what type of cam i should get little tricks here and ther for extra power. im going to be taking the car to the machine shop so while its open what things could i put inside the motor to make power without wasting too much? is 300 rwhp too much for a tpi engine with that budget?

Re: 300 rwhp build?
With an auto I would give you an %20 drivetrain loss in my opinion so your gonna be at 280 rwhp roughly. With a TPI its harder to make hp in my opinion and dont forget that the computer needs to be able to handle you motor mods. Your basicly going to have to either buy or rework alot of the top end to get to 350 hp. Hopefully one of the tpi guys chime in cause im a carb guy. Also the rest of the car is going to have to be able to handle the extra HP the car has and stuff like transmissions and rearends start failing with a constant beating.

thanks 84z28. 20% loss wow i thought it was less than that. 300 rwhp might be a bit harder than i thought. If i up my compression to about 10 to 1 with stock heads and tpi system about where would that leave me at at the motor, of course with a cam change and whole engine rebuild?

Re: 300 rwhp build?
If i get a tpis big mouth intake a 52 mm throttle body and bigger runners with a good cam and stock heads about how much horsepower would that leave me at, plus ill probably do a bit of porting on the runners and maybe plenum, which i would like to keep the stock plenum cause i like the look. Also is there a cold air intake available for a tpi motor?
