wont pass emissions

I drive a 92 camaro RS with a 305 V8. I recently took it to get inspected but it wouldnt pass emissions. It passed at 2500 RPMs but it wouldnt pass at an idle? Any ideas of how to fix this?
Thanks
Wes

Re: wont pass emissions

What part of the emission test failed? NOx, HC or Co? This would help us figure it out for you. Also, what were the standards and the numbers you put out?

Re: wont pass emissions

it failed HC with 545 and it needed 220 to pass
it failed CO with 3.77 and it need 1.2 to pass
it passed both of these at 2500 RPM but just not at an idle....i think something may be wrong with my fuel mixture

Re: wont pass emissions

You may have a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak would cause your fuel to burn incompletely and there you have the bad readings. Also, how is your timing? If you timing is off, that could be the issue. These are some of the things that can cause you to fail. How old is your catalytic converter? That may be bad. If you need to pass right away, try 3 bottles of rubbing alcohol in the tank with the tank about 1/2 full. That should get you through for now, but you will need to fix these issues because you will not get good fuel milage with readings like that.
