did i mess up?
After some reading on prom burning im left wondering..I have an 87 tpi motor and removed all my air lines and smog pump and its electronics, cat converter.I do still have the egr but i would like to disable and remove it too if possable but after the reading on the prom i see i have to disable that stuff in the ecm as well but have i hurt my performance by removeing that stuff and not diableing it in the ecm.It will be a while b4 i can get the stuff to start burning chips and it seems like the more i read the more i like about the idea of it.But the main thing right now is did i mess up removeing the smog stuff causing glitches(like top a speed lean condition keeping me from going faster than 100mph)that cant be fixed till i tell the ecm to ignore them.Any help here would be tremendous and keep me from trying to find and fix problems that cant be.As well as keep me from posting so many things on here aggrovating all you guys for nothing lol sorry everyone and thanx for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an 88 Suburban with a TBI 350 and I did the same thing with no problems. By all means leave your EGR in place though! It lowers your peak combustion temps and lets you run more advanced timing without detonation. If you take it off it will likely just hurt your gas mileage and not really help your power. Besides, it only operates once the engine is warmed up, and only at higher vacuum (such as idle, decelleration, and cruising), not durring hard accelleration. As for the smog pump, I just removed mine cause it looked bad, and the headers I wanted were cheaper without the AIR hookups lol. The AIR system only operates when the engine is cold, and durring decelleration. Basically it injects air into the manifolds to help burn off any unburned fuel that might be in the exhaust under those conditions. This also means you would probably want to remove the cat so you don't melt it from loading it with more unburned fuel. Removing the cat is also not a problem on OBD1 cars, since there is no O2 sensor behind the cat. The computer will never know the difference.
