Oil gauge needle at 0

I have an 88 camaro iroc with a built 5.7lt 350. I noticed my oil gauge was at 0. The needle was not moving at all. My temp. gauge remained in the normal areas and my engine ran fine and made no foreign sounds. Should i be worried about damaging my engine? Some say it may just be a bad gauge. Any suggestions would help...thanx

more likely than not the problem is a bad sensor . they are not known to last more than 20+ yrs. . to replace one they are above oil filter , dirty & covered with crud . be careful with old , brittle plastic connectors going to it . to replace is pretty straight fwd. & cheap . good luck .

Thanks for your advice. I figured it was something to do with a sensor considering i had no increase in engine temp or decrease in performance. Just worried me a bit when i first noticed it!! Scary sight to see needle at 0!!! haha
