I have a rs 3.1 that i just replaced the fuel pump and filter in and now it idles rough and has no power when accelerating and dies some times. I know the car is running lean because i saw smoke coming from under the seat and i looked uner the car and the cat was glowing. I think it may be the o2 senser anyone know anything i can do?

Re: Rs sputtering and backfiring

what wire or tubes are next to the filter that you could hae bumped and what is near the jack?
how about the air injection to the cat? has it been disconnected or pulled away? or any of the lines to it.
i dont know what is near that part of the car and im only guessing.
sounds like the cat is not getting air. it is supposed to be hot but not glowing.
check the leads - strange that as soon as you go under the hood you have a problem.
have you looked at the error codes? go here and all you need is a paperclip and you can get the wrror codes. http://www.freeautomechanic.com/diag...blecodes5.html
