Got some questions after looking inside my engine...

Alright guys, finally got the 350 out of the bird like I've been saying for awhile now and wasn't very pleased with what I've found so far and wanted some help with figuring some things out. When draining the oil to remove the pan, I noticed it was coming out like a really dark green color (like the dark green used in camo paint jobs) with really black swirls in it. Anyone know what could cause this color? I've searched multiple places, but nothing about this shade of green. Once I got the pan off I noticed any oil left was extremely black and there's what appears to be a pretty dang good amount of sludge in the bottom of the pan. To top it all off, I checked both rod and main bearings and they're pretty well shot. The engine had a real deep sounding knock to it, which was why I pulled it. Pretty sure the crank's done too because when I took a main bearing out to look at it, the crank surface had ripples in it (pretty visible and easy to feel). Another question I had is, has anyone had a red colored "stuff" on their crank? This one has some kind of red colored stuff that has a texture kinda like high grit sandpaper from the front of the crank to probably about a 1/4 of the way down. The last thing that had me thinking is, while looking down in the motor at the cylinder walls, it looks like the rings were dragging (you can see streaks up and down the walls where the piston's been going). I was under the impression that it everything's good, you should see crosshatching marks. The only thing searching has dragged up is the possibility that fuel found it's way to the bottom and screwed over the oil, which in turn, killed everything else. I know the P/O said the carb was outta wack. Sorry for the novel, just looking for some answers. Can get pics if needed. Thanks for any help!!!!!

That 'camo green with black stripes' you say you have... that sounds alot like a combination of dirty oil, metal shavings (where the green comes from), and probably some water as well. The fact that you say all the bearings look like they are toast only reinforces this to me. The 'red stuff' on the crank could prossibly be very light shavings of copper (bearing material under the silver coating) mixed with the oil on the crank.

Makes sense. There's super black thick oil stuck to the bottom of the pan. Looks like there's metal in that too, which matches what you said. Also, I looked at that "red stuff" closer today I saw that it's more reddish brown or maroon and it doesn't seem like a liquid (won't come off if you rub it). Almost looks like it was sprayed on there somehow. It's definitely gonna need to have a good bit of work done though.

Not really adding anything helpful but I wish you luck, sounds like you got a real sick motor there. I hope the repair goes smoothly!

Thanks a lot, lol. Really though, thanks for the encouragement! It is pretty sick, someone obviously didn't take care of it. I bought the car knowing it knocked, but the under body on the car is spotless. The top is decent, looks worse than it is, little work and some paint and it'll look brand new. HOPEFULLY... the cost of doing the engine doesn't get outta hand so I can get some paint on it some time. Before I pulled it, I was hoping to be able to just toss some new bearings in and be done, but obviously any hope of that is long gone as my luck would have it, lol, but I'm not expecting anything to go smooth. Thanks for the reply though Tpx.
