Camshaft install on Vortec Roller Motor
I am going to be swapping engines from my stock 305 TBI to 350 Carb. The engine that I am looking at is a 350(pn 12530282) CR is 9.4:1. I will be swapping the cam and the heads. The heads I will be using are Patriot performance Vortec heads (accept lift of up to .575). Intake manifold Performer RPM. I want the car to be streetable as I will be using it mostly for shows, cruises, etc... I don't plan on taking it to the track (often or at all). I want to make sure the car is drivable and I have enough vacuum to operate it on the street but also want it to have a little lope and good power. that being said I am considering the following two cams:
Comp:
XR276HR
Adv Dur:276/282 Dur @ .05 224/230 .502 IN/.510EX LSA 110 Overlap: 59
XR282HR
Adv Dur: 282/288 Dur @ .05 230/236 .510 IN/.520EX LSA 110 Overlap: 65
I was concerned about Exhaust valve clearance on the second cam as I am just short of the .060" safety margin
I will be installing a tq convertor while the engine is out and I have 3.42 gears

Happiness is often a cam that's one size smaller than you think you need. The first one is already a bit bigger and on a tighter LSA than the LT4 "Hotcam" that many would probably use in that application. And I'm not sure your compression ratio is really optimal to work with the bigger cam you listed. So, go with the 276 would be my suggestion.

Do you think that the Hot Cam would be a better choice than the 276? That was originally one of the options I was looking at.

Anyone??? Do you think I will be pulling enough vacuum with the 276 or do you think I should go smaller ( LT4 or 270)? Comp Cams program Cam quest recomended this cam when I plugged it into my combo it listed it as High performance street , just above daily driver and below Street/some strip.

I recently swapped in a LT4 hotcam in my camaro. I done a small write-up on it. I love how it runs. It feels and drives almost completely stock, except for when you get on the gas. Idle is just barely noticeable over stock.
I think you will be alright with the smaller of the two cams you mentioned, but I know you will with the LT4. Your call.
