Hesitating

86 305 with an edelbrock 600 cfm carb, MSD street fire distributor. Prior to today motor was equipped with the computer controlled distributor. Yesterday the car cut out while driving, no warning the motor just died. left it in gear and coasted for a few seconds where it refired on it's own. When it did it backfired pretty decently which blew my exhaust apart. Today installed the MSD distributor on my lunch break, didn't have a timing light so it is just earballed in at the moment. And the distributor is set up in it's out of box configuration. Used the factory ignition wire to the distributor. Idle fair just a tad rough hardly noticeable. Cruising rpms ot 2500 extermely rough stumbling. Accelerating almost perfect. Any ideas?

Re: Hesitating

So you were using the computer-controlled distributor with a non-computer carburetor? Does this version of the Street Fire have vacuum advance? If so, did you connect it to manifold vacuum like you should? Is it adjustable? It is if it came with a little allen wrench. Post the answers to these questions and we'll go from there. Well, I'll be away until Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning, but anyone else who can help will need these same answers.

Re: Hesitating

new Distributor is vacuum advance and is adjustable. Is connected to the proper port on the carb.
