advice on a 383
hello everyone. it being summer time and not in school. i was looking through all my receipts for the engine im building in class. for those of you who dont know. i purchased a 350 block from the 80's. the owner told me it was originally an edelbrock motor. and its a 010 casting. i got it already bored and hones 40 over. i also got it with a stroker kit from Scat. with a crank, 6 inch rods, keith black forged pistons, all the bearings needed. piston rings, double roller timing chain and random gaskets. i picked it all up for 700 bucks. is this a good price?
also my teacher whos an old school gear head is helping me pick out all the heads and go fast goodies. so we were picking the cam and he gave me the basics on what to look for. and what we decided on was this
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-CL12-246-3/
he said it would allow my car to still maintain street manners, yet still make tons of power. so what is your guys opinion on this cam? i already worked out the dynamic compression ratio, im just wondering how this cam will affect the car? will i have a noticeable change in idle?
as far as heads go, ill be looking for a set of 63 to 67 cc combustion chamber heads. i was planning on going aluminum. but it would make my static compression ratio to low and wouldnt be worth the money. so i was planning on one of these
used vortec heads
world products sportsman II heads
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WRL-011250-1/
Dart Iron eagle
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DRT-10121111/
so my most important question is what heads will go good with that cam? the intake manifold i plan on going with is an edelbrock rpm performer, along with an edelbrock 750 cfm carb.
thanks

I'd personally never buy a set of iron heads brand new... Short of finding them used for cheap you might as well fork out $200-400 more and get a set of aluminum heads.... I can't believe Dart and World have the ***** to sell those heads for that much. $944 for the Sportsmans and $1,144 for the Iron Eagles? And both those heads come with crappy 1.25" valve springs. That's a blatant rip-off in my opinion. Check out www.competitionproducts.com They sell Canfield 200cc heads with good valve springs for for $1,060... I believe they offer free shipping too.
Another thing, just my personal opinion, I'll never run any of Comp's XE cams again. I used that exact cam in my old motor and I went through 2 of them in a year. They all kept wiping lobes and I never had a problem with any cam before or afterward. People on here might start thinking I work for Cam Motion but I will never buy another cam from anyone else - If you call them, tell them what your plans for the motor are, they'll spec you out a cam that will do exactly what you want. Leave the guess work on cams to the experts...
