Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS.gov)
How has the government CARS.gov cash for clunckers bailout program affected the sale of F-Body's?
I'm in a debate with myself to cash in on the CARS.gov deal since it is my tax dollars going towards it; however, I don't think my car is a clunker and it would be a shame to have it "destroyed". While I may think my 86 TransAm is worth more than the CARS.gov $3500-$4500 bailout, I'm doubting I could get that much if I were to sell it outright since it has some cosmetic issues with flaking paint and deteriorated rubber rear wing. Drive train is strong with just over 100k mi on the 305 TPI.
I've enjoyed the car for over 12 years now and agree that there is no better sound than the rumble of a V8, but I need a new more fuel efficient vehicle in my fleet either way since my daily driver is gas guzzling, unenvironmentally friendly, non-recyclable, bambi killing SUV ...
Any thoughts?

Look into what you'd hafta buy first, to take advantage of that program.
There is a minimum mpg increase, over what your 86 TA gets, to qualify. You can't just go buy ANY car.
This program is benefiting the buying of more imports than domestic cars.
