Re: in need help

is it factory exhaust system?? no headers?? it should come right out....do you have all the wires off...there is a larger nut for the main wires, and then a little nut next to it with one wire on it.....did you get that one???

Re: in need help

You have to be under the car, and you're going to need to undo the wires first, then you can 'fish' the starter out no problem....but you need to be able to twist the starter around to get it out

Re: in need help

I had to take the selonoid off the starter to get the thing to drop. And then vice-versa to get the new one in... Removed selonoid from new starter, Installed starter then put the selonoid back on.

Re: in need help

I don't think I quite understand what your doing...I'm lost. It's pretty much a stock car and a stock starter your just trying to get out right. You take the main power wire off, then the small wire next to it...unbolt the two main bolts, and drop starter. I changed a starter two weeks ago in mine and I have huge exhaust and headers, and mine came out pretty easy. you should not have to take solenoid off, just the wires....the things should almost fall out, it does take some twisting around, but will NOT come out with wires still attached.....

I wish mine came out that easy! Taking the solenoid off is no big deal (2bolts if I remember correctly) Made it alot easier to get past the exhaust on my 91Bird anyways! Done in a snap!

Re: in need help

I just took my starter off last night. The lower control arms lip was getting in the way so I put the car on my lift, lifted it up, put a jack and a 2x4 under the passenger front tire and lowered it down until that tire was pretty much at ride height. Then it slid right out!
