Speedo Cable?
I have an 88 Camaro I bought cheap from some dude who obviously didn't know what he was doing. I did a search for this but didn't come up with my exact issue. The speedometer does not work (this includes the odometer). I'm told by my mechanic that the speedo cable was laying on the headers and burnt through. Said it'd be $250 just for the replacement cable. Advance has one for $15. Chilton says something about hooking it from the gauge to the brake booster for the non cruise control cars (which this one is). Is it really so simple as to just pull out the cluster and run a new $15 dollar cable from the gauge through the firewall and to some connection on the brake booster or am I missing something? I thought these things went to the tranny (auto)? Anyone have a picture of this connection? My cable's gone and I haven't seen any hole in the firewall.

Re: Speedo Cable?
Thanks again, sir. I'd read that sticky before...I can't believe I forgot about it. To confirm what I've read, I need to pull out my gauge cluster, lube up and attach my new $15 cable and casing, run it through the firewall, find some clips running along the frame (I'm not sure if the rest of the cable is there or not) and attach it to the tranny? It's a 700R4. I'm lost on transmissions. Where on the tranny am I looking for the other connection? Thank you. BTW, that mechanic had my car for almost 3 months and told me he was working on all the problems and only managed to rewire the ignition system and hook the y pipe back up to the headers.
It's been back with me for a couple weeks and I've made vast progress on it, just a couple problems left.
