Who Is Better?

can anyone give me some good input on a cam, lifter, roller chain set? I am no rookie when it comes to the work on my 90 ROC but there are so many cam companies to choose from!! I have the specs of the cam kit I need and am wondering which company has the best product for my application ie: Crane, Comp, Lunati, GM ect. So far the guys at Comp Cams have been pretty helpful but the kit they have is $800. That's alot of cheese for a mild mod on a 27K LB9 with only a mild gain in mid-range and top end

Re: Who Is Better?

800? Are you having to do a retrofit roller kit? If you are doing that, you might be able to save money not doing the kit but to buy the parts separate. Comp Cams parts have been fine for me. Recently switched to a Lunati roller cam plus their retrofit lifters and had a defective lifter. Wiped out the two lifters and the custom camshaft but! They took care of regrinding the camshaft and sending out replacement lifters no problem on their dime. I'd buy from them again but from now on, be checking parts more closely no matter who it's from.

Re: Who Is Better?

Check it Evil C! I'm also having trouble with my air/fuel mixtures, idle , and MAP sensor. I posted another thread in the ECM area you can read as well but, Before I tackle the cam kit (which I got Comp down to 710.00 for the whole kit..springs and all) I need to figure out this idle problem. With the MAP disconnected the car will start and idle fine for a few minutes and then load up and die. With the MAP connected it is hard to start and searches for an idle. I've already replaced every sensor on the car and adjusted the regulator wide open to the point that the car is so rich it will make you high if you stand near it for more than a minute and still she won't idle smooth and hesitates in the low RPM range? What am I missing?? Is it time to start looking at a engine management system? And to answer your earlier question...no retro kit needed.. the motor is a factory roller LB9 305. I know I know... it's only a 305 and everybody says that motor is a dog but I've read that you can squeeze 335-375 out of one if you do it right and the factory roller motors were rated at 220hp stock, and you know GM always underrated their cars for the EPA. 335-375 is a good number for me any day! Besides it only has 27k original on it and I"m not ready to pull it out and move up to a stroker just yet!
