which donar vehicle for tpi distributor

Anyone know which donor vehicles have an hei with the rollercam gear. i have an 87 vette that i am trying to convert back to tpi. The previous owner put a carb on it.

Did he change the distributor?
'87 is the transition year. Roller cam in engine, but big cap distributor. Very rare distributor.
Early model TPI setup on this engine. Not the same as '88 and up.
Best bet is to just get a melonized gear and forget about it.

Yes the distributor was changed. i just picked up a small cap hei an coil off a 91 caprice. The conversion looks pretty easy.

Let us know if it works. If so people with big cap non-vacuum advance dizzys can change to small cap.
It depends on the voltage levels coming off of the module going to the ECM.
