Alright, heres the deal. I got a 92 camaro rs, 255000 on the body but thinkin like 150000 on a new engine, no idea what the new engine is. just bought it used off craigslist. Was running perfect, nice and loud like a good nice camaro should. Im runnin low on gas and i needed to go to talk to my friend for a second. well i show up at her house and turn my car off cuz im so low on gas, but im sittin there and about to leave, put the clutch in and turn the key, nothing happens, try it a couple times, nothing happens. so i get her little hyundai elentra to jump it, not sure if its cuz its little that it didnt work but nothing happened. so her neighbor is about to leave and he has a big toyota fj cruiser, try it to jump it and it dont work. my headlights and inside lights all work fine so im guessing its not the battery. so i put gas in it from a can and try to jump it once again. dont work. So i try to bump start it, i know its not the best thing to do but i needed to get home. well it wouldnt stay alive at first but then i got it once and kept it going for a couple minutes but it would just cough and sputter and smell like it was burnin water like hell. so i jsut left it there for the night and got a ride home. And i had my friend look at it and hes pretty smart with camaros and he said that mabye it was something to do with the clutch safety switch or something like that, but its not there, and there is a bracket but no wires. So he gets his voltage tester and tests every fuse and every wire and their all good and whatever and the batter is all good. but his friend tells him to check if there is any juice gettin to the purple starter cable cord thing. so he does and not a damn thing, not even a little tenth of a jump in the volts. so im tryin to figure out if its the starter? my dad said possibly the starter relay box or switch or something. but we havent been able to get under it to look at half the **** we need to. so i dontvknow. does anyone have any ideas for me? Please help because my moms alredy telling me she told me it would break down. I only got it like a week ago and its making me super pissed.

Re: 92 camaro, will not start, or even try it seem.
Most likely a problem with the VATS ( security system )
The key has a resistor pellet in it that has to be read by the contacts in the lock.Often pellet gets dirty and can't be read. If the key can't be read the computer will prevent engine from starting.

Do you have 2nd key to try?
1st .
Try cleaning the pellet on the key and the inside of the lock
2nd.
Hotwire the starter and see if it will fire. Run a wire from starter solenoid ( where the purple goes ) and touch on batt+ .Make sure car is out of gear
If it does fire ,the VATS is OK and seeing as the clutch switch is bypassed the starter enable relay is possibly faulty.
If it won't fire then the VATS is still stopping the injectors firing
