Flickering temp gauge

My temp gauge flickers to the right hitting 260F off and on...should I be concerned? When I opened the hood, no smoke or smell of burning oil/motor. Could this be a minor electrical issue? Thanks for any help.

Re: Flickering temp gauge

I suspect the gauge sender unit in the head may be on the way out.

Re: Flickering temp gauge

Actually solved the problem, the temp sensor under the hood was laying on the alternator, so when the alternater was running hot, my temp gauge flickered. Thanks for the help though.
