Trying to start 88' GTA
Trying to start 88' GTA
Hello all. I am trying to get my GTA started after sitting for a few years. I have no spark and no fuel pressure. I am not hearing my fuel pump kick on at all. I was wondering if there was some kind of shutdown mode they go into? (I had an explorer that would cut off the fuel and ignition in an emergency situation). I do know the last time it was running it was running great and fast. It has had a performance chip installed. After driving it got hot idling in my driveway while I was letting the battery charge up after a jump. I started it up a few weeks later to take somebody for a ride and it bogged down when I punched it. He thought that maybe the cap and rotor needed replaced. I pulled them off and they were corroded. After replacement it would try and start, but never would run. The oil smelled like gas and was kind of creamy looking. Here I am now trying to get the thing going. I put a battery in it to find that it will turn over, but no spark or fuel. I am wondering when it got hot if I possibly have bad head gaskets or if the intake gasket went because of the gas smelling oil. Could that of been caused by trying to start multiple times? The oil does not appear to be that way now after it has sat a few years. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check the fuse/fusible link near the battery, it powers the ECM. Do you get a check engine light when you turn the key to run?

I didn't see a fuse by the battery, but there is a fuse that is for the ecm in my fuse box. When you turn the key to light up the gauges the service engine soon light is lit up.

gas will not make the oil creamy..only coolant could do that.
Look under your oil fill cap, if there is any light color oil, there is moisture present.
