Fuel Pump Hissing/whinning sound
Lately I've become concerned that I may have a fuel pump thats on its way out. The car is a 89 Firebird Formula 350 TPI. Anyway, when I turn the key foward you hear what Im am told is the usually fuel pump primming itself noise. Thats not what concerns me at the moment. What concerns me is that while driving I hear a winning or hissing like sound. It becomes more apparent or easily heard when Im at a stop sign. I am also able to hear it better because I have folded my rear seats down. Just wondering if this was an issue. Thanks.

Re: Fuel Pump Hissing/whinning sound
Hey man, I have a 91 tpi and my car does this when it is ready to run out of gas. LOL. Not trying to be a smart *** or anything. How is your fuel filter? I know that if the fuel filter is clogged or installed backwards for instance , then it WILL make that wining or howling sound that you spoke of. Also, heat from the muffler is a possible cause , but unlikely. Your pump may be going bad,but maybe not either. I would look into a fuel filter first.
