1991 305 f code rebuild

Hey guys, I have a 1991 camaro z28 with a 305 tpi engine. Its a t5 and has the g92 option. Its got 170,000 on the engine and its tired. Including myself im pretty sure between the other 2 owners its had the tar whipped out of it. I want to pull the engine get rid of all my a/c and smog junk. I dont need to pass emissions anymore in mass but anyways, i wanna do a full stripdown and rebuild and get alittle more zip out of it I want to bump up the compression a bit and put a little bigger of a cam in it. i need help from the people who have done this or know what they're doing. Please give me parts suggestions and tell me what i need to do this

To be honest, I'd start with a 350. It will cost virtually the same to put either a 305 or 350 in it, so why not start out with more cubes? The rest depends on how much you want to spend. The usual starting place seems to be heads, cam, and intake. Maybe something like vortec heads (requires the vortec TPI base though), LT1 cam, and headers. Keep in mind that you'll need a tune if you do much of anything, since it's a speed density setup. Or, you could just do what I'm doing, and save up for an LSX swap :P

Yea,I would just go with a 350. Can prolly find one needing a rebuild pretty cheap anyhow. Plus by the sound of it sounds like the motor you have still runs. Thats nice lol, use that while your building your engine. Mine went completely bad, I have had it down now for prolly 3 months. Be surprised how much a project can grow and how much you start to miss your car, lol. Things like this never go as fast as you think they will, lol.

Plus if you could find a 350 and built it up to a 383 it would be pretty sweet.

The pre-87 heads will not fit your TPI lower intake. You could however find an 85 or 86 TPI base, which would fit. However, if they're 70's heads, they are more than likely junk, GM didn't really make a whole lot of good cylinder heads in the 70s and early 80s. Well, at least not SBC ones. I would look around ebay for a stock 90-92 350TPI prom, I'd be willing to bet you could find one cheap. That should at least get it running half decent, unless you go with a really radical cam or something crazy.
