BUILDING A 383 LT1

what parts and **** should i get to do this swap? what brand and all that kind of stuff? did all the **** on my car swaped in the 1996 lt1 and t56, got it running and driving but when it comes to getting a engine done out dont know to much jsut the basics. getting it all machined and ported, polished blahblahblah from a shop but what parts should i put on it? what brand? forged or cast? wat kind of springs? lifters?... i wana be pushing out 420 - 450 horses and still have a good running street car that will eat mustangs and turbo'd imports. and i dont know what i want in a cam. ALSO i am on a budget. After putting in the motor and getting it all wired up and everything where i want it i pulled it out to prep the engine bay and the rest of the car for paint and bodywork and decided insteaded of doing a basic rebuild on it i mite aswell do a 383 BUT on a budget since theres lots left to do on the car (custom paint, interior suspension, wheels) What you guys think??

Re: BUILDING A 383 LT1

i would suggest the balanced rotating assembly from eagle for scat. since your wanna build a stroker motor. it comes with crank rods bearsings and pistons. cam wise i would say maybe a .525 lift maybe? i have a lunati vood series. and it seems to be doing quit well. and cams hard too. as for the springs i would go with the same brand as of whatever brand came you put in. hence my cam lifters springs caps and locks are all lunati. the valves i have are manley.

i dont wanna spend more then $3000 on parts including machining $3500max if i have to. I was looking at the eagle stroker kit it looks pretty good for under $1000 comes with pistons and everything. But what should i do for lifter, springs, rockers....? hydraulics or roller? what difference do the two make?

The two types are flat tappet or roller cam .Both both use hydraulic lifters.
Your engine has a hydraulic roller cam, keep the same type.

Kits with cast crank / Hyper pistons can be had from $700 up.

For $1000 you should be getting forged pistons

Any 383 SBC kit to suit a 1 peice rear seal engine ('87+) will work; it doesn't have to be advertised for a "LT1"

Need a plan.
Are you keeping stock heads , getting them ported or buying aftermarket?
Lloyd Elliot has a very good name with the LT1 crowd and does some nice matched head / cam packages
