I'm having some hot start issues with my GTA (305 tpi) and need some advice. The car fires up within a second the first time I start it in the morning. However, after running the car for any length of time it does not like to start while the engine is hot. I can get it started but I have to crank it for a few seconds and hold the throttle open. I assume this is due to the starter solenoid becoming heat soaked. I do have headers on the car which makes it extra hot under the hood. I have seen starter heat sheilds and the sleeves that DEI makes. Has anyone used any of these products? Did they work well? What other options are out there and what's the best way to fix this problem? Thanks guys.

 

If the starter is still turning the engine over then it's not the starter or it's solenoid. If it didn't want to turn the engine then it might be a heat soak issue, but that doesn't sound like the problem you're experiencing.

Ok I will check the timing. If that is the problem, why would it make a difference weather the engine is hot or cold? Also, what is considered the optimal timing for a 305 tpi? I always run 93 octane.

 

Can't give details but to much timing can make it hard to start hot.
