miss

Changed cap and rotor.Cranked car everything was fine.Decided to slap on some new valve covers I got and they wouldnt clear my r.r. for some reason. They were both gm stamped centerbolt covers one set was just the chrome bow tie valve covers.Anyway,I pull them off and put my stockers back on and fired it up.I forgot to reconnect the passenger side spark plugs.Shut it down and hooked them up now I have a pretty bad miss.Could I have fried my coil or ignition module.I believe something like that happened before when i forgot to hook up a wire.I have checked and quadruple checked to see if my wires are on correctly. Is there any way to test the ignition module. All my wires are labled so i cant get them confused and were only disconnected from the cap.I`m sure its something simple im missing.

You can take your ignition contrl module to most auto parts stores like advance auto. They will check it for free. Don't forget to put thermal grease on the underneath when your reinstall it. Let me get this straight. You forgot to hook up the wires to the cap on the distributor itself ? Make sure your brake booster vacum hose on the back of your plenum didnt get disconnected. What did you disconnect on the passengers side when you changed your valve covers? I know that on my 91 TPI there is a lot of crap on the passenger side that needs to be disconnected before the valve cover can come off. Double check dude. It could be a coincidence also that something else happened to go bad while you were doing work on your car. You never know. Have you tried checking for codes yet? Later

Re: miss

I have one of the most simple engine bays. All I have to remove is the wires themselves.I`m only running power steering and alternator for accessories.I have a/c delete box as well and its a non emmisions car,so you can imagine how easy it is to do this.I checked and double checked the vacuum lines and all seems normal.

When I got home tonight from work,I took it all apert again just for the hell of it.The rotor, which was harder to put on than normal, was rubbing the top inside of the cap.Plastic shavings and dust were present.IT WOULD NOT GO DOWN ANY FURTHER.I checked it against a blue streak rotor and some other parts store replacement I had laying around and the accel was about an 1/8th" to 3/16th" taller than the previous ones ive used.

Not sure if this caused the miss but it cant be right. It is the exact cap i should have but the rotor is taller.Ive done every tune up on this car since I`ve had it and never seen this or had this problem.I`m taking the cap, rotor and my ignition module tomorrow for testing and to figure out why the rotor is taller.

If thats not it I`ll swap the wires out but they look great.I also tried a different coil and it made no difference,so I ruled that out.

Re: miss

Wow I`m stumped.this is stupid.Ive changed coil, wires, plugs, cap, rotar, checked for vacuum leaks and I still have a miss.I`m going to pull the valve covers off and look as close as I can to see if i knocked something loose somewhere that I cant see.

Has anyone ever had a bad ignition module?I mean I have but they either work or they dont from my experience.NO CODES EITHER!

Re: miss

OK,I figured it out and didnt even consider this to be a possibility.was going to pull my valve covers off abd see what I knocked loose and noticed the inlector clip on #7 was not on the connector.I touched it and it fell off.It was just sitting on top but not pluuged in.Plugged it in and runs fine now
