L98 must use shaft rockers??

I was going to have a shop install ZO-6 lightweight valves in my GM Alum heads but found that Manley states you need shaft mount rockers when using the 5/16" stem valves and that is the stem size of the ZO-6 valves, is this true??

That seems really odd.... considering that with center bolt valve covers.... putting shaft rockers in there just isn't going to work......

I would call their tech line, and ask directly.

Why would you go to the trouble / cost of installing smaller stem valves in a set of 113 heads?
You can buy aftermarket lightweight valves with the correct stem size that don't require any other changes

It's just a matter of saving money...maybe ! I have multiple sets of LS1 valves left over from the engines I had for my 98, and now that it's gone, and can't return the new sets, I'd like to use them in the L98. If I am going to install the same size valves as the ZO6 had, and already have them, I'd like to know if it's fesible without spending as much as buying completly new sets.

Re: L98 must use shaft rockers??

8mm LSx type valves dont need shaft rockers... I ran them just fine on my L98 with standard small block chevy rockers. Non self aligning with guideplates

AFR heads for small block chevy use 8mm valves
