Question about ignition coil.

Ok, my gm blaster ignition coil just took a crap. Should i buy that same one or get the streetfire one? I have this older accel coil, but its HUGE. Will the accel one work or not cuz of the size? another question is how do you change out the ignition coil? i cant get to the bracket bolts.

Re: Question about ignition coil.

You could do whatever. Generally speaking no theres no reason to even go beyond stock and heres why. The way a spark plug works is it needs enough voltage to create a spark. The key in that sentence is they need enough voltage to create a spark. Having a 100k volt coil will do nothing over a 40k coil as a spark plug may only need 30k volts to cause a spark anything over that will be sort of shorted out in essence. So really there's no reason to go beyond stock unless you were running a racing fuel or in really high RPMs. So your choice.

The time it takes a coil to saturate sufficiently to produce that 30kV does matter. And that's where stock coils fall short. 4500 RPMs is about all they can typically handle.

What else do you have for ignition? MSD specifies different coils for different ignitions.

Re: Question about ignition coil.

well, i have an msd multispark box. but my question is how to replace the coil. it looks really tight in there by the screws.
