do you still have the stock pass key? if so do a search that eliminates the vats syatem and just put in a new lock cylinder from autozone with a normal key. all the vats by pass is is a resistor in the key the computer looks for to start the car. if u can find resistance of old key u can just put a inline resistor the same as your key and run a normal ignition cylinder

Under the steering column you'll find a white covering over 2 orange wires. Cut these two wires, and insert resistor between the two wire end on the car side, not the steering column side. You'll have to try each of the 15 resistors until you get the right one - and you'll have to wait at least 5 minutes between attempts so the VATS computer can reset after it gets a bad reading. Search VATS on the internet or here at TGO to get the 15 different resistors you'll need, then get them from local radio shack. There is a tech article here - go to main page, then click tech articles, then look for VATS.

When you get the right resistor, the car will start. At this point, you can leave in the resistor and solder it in, or since you now know the resistor value you can get a new lock cylinder and have a key cut to fit it that has the that resistance built into the pellet on the key. Any ACE Hardware can cut these keys for under $25.

Re: 1992 camaro rs anti theft help

exactly. and since u have the resistor in place u can get a normal key cylinder at like autozone for like $12 that comes with keys. and it wont cost you $25 to have a key made for your car. and if your real worried about the car being easier to steal then get fancy and hide a switch some where and run those wire ends to it.
