89 GTA

89 GTA

Alright guys, i am seriously considering buying a second Third-Gen. A guy has a 1989 GTA white with t-tops he wants to sell to me for a decent price, here is the issue, if I am not mistaken that year was either TBI or TPI right? He has pulled a N/A 305 with tranny from a Caprice Classic with less than 60,000 miles recorded on it. The questions I have are 1. Will I be able to run it as a N/A configuration or do I need to get al the FI parts for it? 2. I know I need a part for the rear/tailshaft of the trans but cant remember the name of it, anyone know it? He is asking $500.00 for it and the body is really nice looking.

N/A in the text I used means Naturally Aspirated (carbed). Thanks greatly for the help. Now I know just how much I have to do to get her back on the road once I tow her home. I would much rather keep what it has engine wise without all that TPI stuff I am not really that great with it. The main thing I am concerned about is that I am almost sure it has an ECM and I dont want to have to deal with it giving me issues.

Yes there were. There was a really nice 305TPI/700R4 I saw in person at the Barret Jackson auto auction in Las Vegas this year.

OK, but that is sad to hear, a 305 GTA....

Sure, to get a T5 the customer had to buy a 305, or swap afterwards at home. But at least it wasn't a TBI!

I have an 88 GTA in my garage right now with 305 TPI and 700R4. Bought it off a guy who couldn't figure out how to bypass VATS.

It's a nice car. As soon as I get my new steering column (PO butchered the old one) I'm putting her on the road.

BTW it is def stock 305 TPI w/700R4. I checked all the codes.

Oh... and there's a WC T5 sitting in my shop with her name on it. I need a couple of more items to complete the swap, and I'd like to rebuild the T5 before I put it in.
