Drove into a curb at full speed
Hey guys,
I just did the stupidest ****ing thing in the world. I drove into a curb at 60 km/hr, (around 40mph)....my front right tire blew. I got off the curb pretty quickly.
I towed the car and got the tire changed, however, now when I start the car, I hear this whining noise, and it gets louder when I step on the gas....I popped and hood and I believe that it is coming from the alternator area...but ****, I just changed the alternator about 2 months ago, could driving up a curb really damage an alternator?
I have parked my car and haven't driven it since.
Thanks!

Do you have a serpentine belt system, or multi belts? Either way, remove the belt(s), and then start your engine, that way no belt driven accessories are running, if your whining noise goes away, then it's obviously one of the accessories, ie Alt, A/C compressor, power steering pump, or water pump. Don't run the engine long, as your water pump is not pumping water into the engine to cool it. Usually a few minutes is all it will take, to confirm what accessory is causing the noise. Don't overlook the obvious, ie belts, and pulleys. They can make gawd awful noises sometimes!!
Also, check under the car for any transmission damage that may have been caused by running over the curb!! The torque converter cover could be mashed a bit, and it may be rubbing against the torque converter/flexplate!!
Don't forget to check the oil pan for damage also!!!
