Fuel Pump Question?

I did some searching around a couple different sections but I was surprised that I couldnt really find an answer to my question. I was curious as to what the limits of a stock fuel pump are? The car was originally an LB9 now I'm dropping in a 355 with RHS pro-torkers, xe-268 cam, HSR, 24lb injectors, and I'm thinking of setting the fuel pressure to about 44-45psi, and I'm wondering if I will be maxing out the stocker? Thanks.

Hello IrocZ30589!!

45 PSI

**Right out of the 1987 Camaro service manual, the stock pump for a 5.0/5.7 liter TPI, puts out 40.5 - 47 psi fuel system pressure at the test port, key on engine off!!

Engine running, 34 - 47 psi, regulated by the fuel pressure regulator.

The pump will put out more than 60 psi if you "dead head" the pump by restricting the fuel return line, "not recommended"

Re: Fuel Pump Question?

Is it enough to feed my combo? It fed my 355 TPI fine with the same heads, but I'm switching to an HSR a bigger cam, complete exhaust, more agressive tune, and just about every bolt-on and some off there is.

Hello IrocZ30589!!

I don't really know about that, but look at it this way, the PSI might be good enough with a stock pump, however the flow rate of gallons per hour might not be enough to handle it.

You might run into fuel starvation problems!!!

More thought process is required, to give you a better answer, or at least the one your looking for!!

Re: Fuel Pump Question?

Its entirely dependent upon how much power you're making. However for most of us the stock pump will flow plenty, should be enough to support above 400HP depending on your BSFC.
